The Importance of servicing your adaptations

The Importance of Servicing your Adaptations

A regular service of your adaptations has many benefits. Not only will you have peace of mind that your adaptations are working as they should, but in many cases, it is a requirement for warranty purposes.

  • Convenience of stress-free servicing

  • Ensuring safety and reliability

  • Keeping you
    independent

Signs your adaptations need servicing

  • Are your hand controls, foot pedals, or steering wheel feeling stiff or unresponsive?

  • Do you hear any unusual sounds or vibrations while operating your car adaptations?

  • Do you notice any signs of wear and tear, such as cracks or tears, in your car adaptations?

  • Do you notice any signs of wear and tear or changes in the operation of your car adaptations

Stress-free servicing for your adaptations

We would normally contact you 11 months from your initial purchase, this allows us to carry out a service/ inspection before the warranty ends on your product.

Any service can be carried out at our premises in Driffield or in special circumstances, at your home/work address. We strive to make the maintenance of your adaptation as convenient and as stress free as possible.

As a Space Drive customer, we can carry out the service at your home address. Our qualified team of experts are authorised agents for a wide range of manufacturers.

Our technicians have extensive training, so you can be confident no matter what adaptation you have, we have the knowledge, skill and experience to look after and keep it in tip top condition.

This was our first experience of Driffield Mobility. Everyone was really helpful and nothing was too much trouble. From the initial phone call to the fitting of a hoist and purchase of a power chair, the advice was really helpful. It was nice to experience no pressure selling and you could tell the main concern was making sure we would get what we actually needed.

Ensuring Safety and Reliability for Longer

Having your adaptations regularly serviced by the experts ensures that your adaptations are always at their best. Any potential problems can be spotted early and rectified before you run into any real problems.

Your vehicle is your independence, just as you would regularly service and maintain it, looking after your fitted adaptations properly will ensure that they also remain in good working order for longer and continue to be safe and reliable.

It’s easy to ignore small faults that are more of an occasional, slight annoyance. A random flickering light, controls feeling slightly stiffer or looser than they once were, or perhaps they are a little less comfortable to operate but still function. Taking time out to get a service when you are busy can be inconvenient but it is invaluable in keeping your adaptations in full working order.

Getting Started

If you have not previously driven using vehicle adaptations we will always advise that you are assessed by a professional to ensure that you choose the best adaptation for your needs.

  • person on the phone

    1. Contact the RDAC

The RDAC (Regional Driving Assessment Centre) is a charitable organisation that is dedicated to helping disabled and elderly people maintain their independence. They provide driving and access assessments. They include a physical and cognitive evaluation in addition to an on road drive where appropriate.

There are many branches of the RDAC throughout the North and Central UK. An assessment may be free of charge to those in receipt of the high rate mobility component of the disability living allowance or the enhanced Personal Independence Payment. You can telephone the centre to discuss your requirements and applications for an assessment can be completed by post or email. An appointment letter will be sent to you .

  • Will I have to pay Vat on your goods and services?

You will not have to pay Vat if you are ‘chronically sick or disabled’ and the goods or services are for your own personal or domestic use. A person is ‘chronically sick or disabled’ if he or she is a person: with a physical or mental impairment which has a long term and substantial adverse effect upon his or her ability to carry out everyday activities with a condition which the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness It does not include an elderly person who is not disabled or chronically sick or any person who is only temporarily disabled or incapacitated, such as with a broken limb. If you are unsure, you should seek guidance from your GP or other medical professional.

You can find out more from the help sheets on the GOV.UK website or by telephoning the VAT Disabled Reliefs Helpline on Telephone: 0300 123 1073. https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/vat-reliefs-for-charities-disabled-and-older-people

  • Do you stock all the wheelchairs and scooters shown on your website?

Whilst we try to stock a wide variety of products it would be impossible for us to stock them all. If you have a particular product in mind please give us a call and we will do our best to arrange a product demonstration within a few days.

  • I am getting my vehicle on the Motability Scheme. How do I order my adaptations?

Before you order your new vehicle please get in touch with us to discuss your requirements. We can advise you as to which vehicles are the most suitable and we will liaise with the car dealership to ensure the correct adaptations are fitted and the whole process runs as smoothly as possible.

About

About

Driffield Mobility was established in 1996 by Keith Cadwallader. Having always wanted to start his own business, Keith found the push that he needed when he was made redundant from his job.
A precision engineer by trade, Keith already had experience of working in the vehicle adaptation industry. He knew he was able to channel his passion and skills for engineering into providing a service that would enable others to become more mobile. The business started out in a small industrial unit and, in 2004, Keith bought a plot of land in Driffield and erected a new purpose-built workshop. He retired in 2007 when his son, Kevin and daughter, Lynn took over the business. However, 11 years later people still come into the building looking for Keith!
Things have changed considerably since those early days. We now employ a team of 11 dedicated staff. We have built up close relationships with Motability and our regional car dealerships, and we are agents for almost all major suppliers to the Mobility Industry. We are also 1 of only 6 agents in the UK for Space Drive – an advanced fly by wire driving system.
However, despite how we have changed and progressed, our company ethos has always remained the same;
  • We care about our customers
  • We listen to our customer's needs
  • We source the best and most appropriate products for the task
  • We put care and attention to detail into our work
  • We deliver on time
  • And last, but not least, we provide excellent after sales service
At Driffield Mobility we take great pride in how far we have come and the excellent reputation that we have earned in the vehicle adaptation and mobility industry. Our aim is to remain one of the best adaptation installers in the UK and to continually improve through training and innovation so that we can provide freedom and independence for our customers for many more years to come.
