Joanne and her daughter, both wheelchair users, faced significant challenges with their previous vehicle, a Motability-provided Renault Master Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV). Unfortunately, the vehicle was no longer fit for purpose due to several key issues that made travel uncomfortable and impractical for them.
Firstly, there were no opening windows in the rear, which meant inadequate ventilation, making long journeys particularly unpleasant. Secondly, the wheelchair positioning in the rear was very low, sitting below the level of the front seats. This resulted in a restricted view and an increased feeling of isolation for Joanne. Lastly, the vehicle's heating system failed to adequately warm the rear, leaving Joanne and her daughter cold during winter journeys.
These issues severely impacted Joanne’s ability to travel comfortably, leading to severe nausea and travel sickness. As a result, she had only managed to travel 13,000 miles in seven years, highlighting just how unsuitable the vehicle was for her needs.
John, Joanne’s carer, began searching online for a solution and came across our website. Seeing that we specialise in sourcing pre-owned ex-Motability WAVs, they reached out to our team.
